Colin was born in Catbalogan, Samar, Philippines, and grew up on Kadena Air Force Base before moving to Oregon after his father’s retirement from the US Air Force. His career in social justice activism began when he went to the University of Oregon where he was involved with student campaigns and completed his studies in Political Science focusing on American political culture in regards to issues facing communities of color and LGBTQ communities. During his time in Eugene, Oregon, he was integral in progressive politics and coalition building for social justice issues including winning the freedom to marry in Oregon United for Marriage, and working as a Field Organizer for Congressman DeFazio in Oregon’s 4th Congressional District.
Colin has since moved his focus from political engagement to building community through philanthropy. Previously, he was the Development Coordinator at Basic Rights Oregon and MRG Foundation, where he played an integral part in stewarding annual funds, developing and maintaining business processes, and coordinating major events. He is active with the Willamette Valley Development Officers (WVDO) through the Fundraisers of Color peer-group, and has been selected to be in the 2017-2018 Cohort for WVDO’s Professional Certificate in Nonprofit Fundraising.
Colin is excited to join APANO as their Development Manager. Please feel free to contact him, especially if you want to help steward individual donors, join our committee for the Voices of Change annual gala, to connect us with your workplace giving campaigns, or even to set a planned gift!
On a personal note, Colin enjoys spending time with family, playing board games and singing karaoke with friends, and has ongoing projects to help elevate the visibility of his peers who are leaders in fundraising.
