Luann is originally from Anaheim, California and moved to Portland in 2010 to finish her Bachelor of Arts in Women’s Studies at Portland State University. She completed a Master of Arts degree in Conflict Resolution also at Portland State University with a thesis titled, Comedy as a Platform for Marginalized Voices: Asian American Women and the Disoriented Comedy Showcase. Before joining APANO, Luann has been involved with student activist organizations both in California and in Portland.
Luann came to APANO as the co-producer for the comedy event, Dis/orient/ed Comedy, the first all Asian American women and queer standup comedy tour to come to Portland. Her artistic roots are in dance and creative writing. She is Filipina American and has a deep-rooted love for constantly learning about Filipino indigenous and modern culture, language, politics, and identity. In her spare time, she likes to read and discuss feminist theory, media representations of APIs, and the intersection of the arts and activism. She maintains a blog at browngirldecolonized.com and is the proud owner of a social justice corgi puppy named Atticus.
