Position Title: APANO New American Voters Project (NAVP) Intern

Reports To: Field Organizer

Duration: Fall 2018 (October 1- December 23, 2018)

Hours: 3 – 5 hours per week

Compensation: Unpaid

About the Position:

The Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO) is looking for a motivated, creative, and organized individual to build grassroots power in Asian and Pacific Islander communities in Oregon and advance racial and social justice. APANO is seeking an intern to assist the Field Organizing Team help set up the NAVP upstairs table at the USCIS Office in downtown Portland, help register new American citizens after their naturalization ceremony, collect forms and drop off forms at the Oregon Voice office twice a month. The time it takes to facilitate this process is approximately an hour and a half from 1:45PM to 3:15PM. This position will require a total of 3 – 5 hours commitment (October – December 2018 with potential for renewal). The ideal candidate is passionate about social justice, and is excited to learn about issues and policies that affect Asian & Pacific Islander communities in Oregon. They will work in a queer-friendly, multi-ethnic, AAPI-centered, intergenerational organization.

The APANO NAVP Intern is responsible for supporting our Political Field Team and assist in meeting our voter registration goals. The position will provide a hands on opportunity

for a professional who is interested in working in political organizing and gaining community outreach skills. The intern will have the opportunity to work closely with a core team of community organizers, learn about electoral politics, campaigning, and witness the operation of a culturally-specific, community-based non-profit organization.
